Another great feature of the Sumter community is the extensive opportunities for the outdoor enthusiast. Staff Sgt. Peter Yokel, Third Army Advanced Party information systems noncommissioned officer in charge, recently explored some local mountain bike trails at Manchester State Forest.

Manchester State Forest is located in Sumter and Clarendon counties. Trail riders must obtain a permit before riding and have it on them at all times.
Daily permits are valid for the date of purchase. Individuals 16 years of
age and older are required to have a permit in their possession. Individuals 15 years of age and younger must be supervised by an adult 21 or older with a permit Permits are $5.00 a day or $25.00 for an annual permit.

The Trails available are:

The K3, Hardcore and Campbell Pond Loop trails which open from sunrise to sunset on Sunday only during deer hunting season from September 15 through January 1.

The K3, Hardcore, and Campbell Pond Loop trails are open daily from January 2 through September 14. Riders should take safety precautions when riding from January 2 through April 30 (small game and turkey seasons)

Night riding is allowed on the K3 and Hardcore trails from Jan. 2-Sept. 14 as long as the bike has a visible light from the front and reflector on the rear.
